Roller Bass
It started with a desire for a 34 inch bass quitar I could put in a backpack and travel with. That meant broken down the bass had to be about 24 inches.
A headless bass with a removeable neck cuts down on the broken down height. After having a few failures with the crimping string tensioners a plan to use standard tuners was arrived at. Rollers were incorporated into the design but given the unusual nature of the design a proof of concept was built first with a 2x4 and some rollers.
The neck was salvaged from an old distressed bass. With some cutting and shaping the head was cut off the neck as it was converted into a headless neck.
The bass body is oak and looks better than the POC 2x4. There are still some minor changes on knobs and strap but this is the finished product.
Some details are more clear in a closer view.
