Fruita is attempting to establish itself as a mountain biking hot spot. It's doing a pretty good job of building excellent trails. We started out on a beginners trail, Rustlers Loop. From there I headed out up Mary's Loop to Horse Thief Bench. Most marked was the variety. The trails ranged from fast swoopy single track to technical sections that only an immortal rider could clean. Horse Thief Bench was particuarly nice.

Rustlers Loop starts out easy and stays that way. It's a nice warm up ride with interesting rock formations.

The trail comes right up to the edge of the Colorado river and runs along it for a short while.

Mary's Loop starts with an easy climb with some obstacles. It then levels off for a mile or more before coming to the Horse Thief Bench trail head. The start of the trail is almost comical. It can barely be traversed on foot let alone on a bike. Needless to say I gave up early and carried my bike down the first 100 yards of the trail.

Once down on the bench the trail races around with a few obstacles here and there before dropping down closer to the river where it gets more technical. Once it comes back up to the bench it follows a dry creek bed with some steps and some sweeping banked corners. Lots of fun.
