Herd Hollow starts at 5500 feet and climbs to
7500 feet. A picture from the parking lot is to the right. Herd
Hollow is scenic but is just a dirt road so it's not very technical
at all. The rise is gradual, maybe a 5% grade for the first
half and 10% for the second half. It makes for an easy climb
although it takes some time since it is 2000 feet of climbing.
The plan was to get to the top and come down Richards Hollow
but it was getting a little close to dusk and after passing
or being passed by at least a dozen hunters we decided it would
be more prudent to come back down the road instead of crashing
through the brush and being mistaken for deer.

Starting in the parking lot and riding up the road the stream
next to the road was very pleasant.
After a few miles the trail climbs up away from the stream
into grass covered hills with aspen and some small bushes.
At the halfway point. Still more climbing to go. Up the road
to the top of the mountain in the distance.
At the half way point we had a good view of the valley on
the other side of the saddle.
This is the valley we just came up.
Finally at the top and there is a beautiful view of the mountains
in the distance.
